Harry George Owen

Harry has been competing in gymnastics for 15 years, starting at the age of 6!. His father, a headteacher one day decided to take Harry along to one of his after school gymnastic club that was every Wednesday. By the end of the first session he was recognised by the coach as a natural talent. From there he progressed onto a local Gymnastics club in Pembrokeshire in West Wales called Milford Haven Gymnastics Club and then got picked to trial for the centre of excellence in the city of Swansea Gymnastics centre.

After working hard and impressing the coaches in Swansea he was invited to train there 4 times a week. This centre of excellence was his training centre for 9 years which took him all the way in the Junior rankings in GB. Within 2 years he had become the Welsh national champion in 2005 along with winning his first ever GB title later on in the same year.

2006 was a very special year for Harry, at just 12 years old he got called up for his first senior debut for Wales competing in the Northern European Championships in Norway. He finished 35th in the whole of Northern Europe that year in the senior catergory. In 2010 he was invited to the commonwealth games in New Dehli India, now 16 he was selected in the reserve position for the senior mens team. Even though he didnt get to compete in these games it made him more determined not to give up.

2011 was the year of the Junior commonwealth games and he was selected to compete for Wales, he was very successful and qualified into the all around final in the top 5 positions out of the whole commonwealth nations. Exceeding all his expectations he then went on to the final to a podium finish winning a junior commonwealth games bronze medal. The first ever Gymnast in Wales to ever win a medal as such in the junior rankings, a very proud moment in his career. Harry has been busy inspiring children in schools this year and will find out wether he qualifies for Rio 2016 in June!  Good Luck Harry!
