How I Started
For me, I was always really sporty when I was younger, and I participated in a handful of sports like swimming, cricket, football etc. I stopped attending these and returned to athletics, at my first session back I spotted the vault and decided I wanted to have a go myself. I spoke to the instructor running the session and was introduced to my now coach; Trevor Fox.
My Greatest Achievement
My greatest achievement is achieving a silver medal in my home Commonwealth Games this year, this came off the back of my fourth-place finish in the Gold Coast. I didn’t think I had a shot at a medal this year as I had a tough 2021 which crept into the start of the 2022 season, and even by march I hadn’t set a score high enough to even qualify! Going into it we were expecting a bronze medal at best so we were over the moon to have brought home a silver medal.
My Greatest Challenge
I was successful as a junior athlete, but I endured a stress fracture in my back that took me away from training and competing for seven months. The injury occurred in march, and I returned to pole vault in November, as this was my first big injury it took a lot out of me especially since it was a big job to rehabilitate. When I returned in November, I had the Commonwealth Games in March, but I also had the Northern Championships in January. This meant I had just two months to get back into shape and ready to compete in the run-up to the Commonwealth Games.
My Hobbies
Outside of pole vault, I enjoy taking my dog out for walks and I also love Ice Hockey!
My Future goals
I am looking to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympics, but we also have the World Championships in Budapest.
