Bio
How I started:
When I was 14 I used to watch my dad shoot, I became quite intrigued and asked to have a go, to which then somebody at the club stated that due to my disability I would not be able to shoot, so after a few weeks of my dad and I altering the handle on a bow for me to use, and out of my own stubbornness I began to shoot too! I joined a Sussex able-bodied team, and then I moved onto Great Britain after my dad tricked me into going to one of their talent identification day as I didn’t want to go because I was picked on for my disability and so the thought of celebrating disability was not something I could ever see me doing because I just wanted to hide it!
My Greatest Achievement:
My greatest achievement is earning a silver medal at the Rio Paralympics. The Rio Paralympics were very divisive as it was a very dangerous place to host an event like that, but I felt very elated to have earned a medal at the Paralympics! I am also very happy with becoming world champion just nine months after giving birth! Once you are on the Great British team, you then must qualify to get into the Great British World Championships team. This was in the Czech Republic, and it was the longest that I had been away from my baby who had also had an accident while I was out there so I was ready to go home at any moment. Thankfully everything was fine and I shot my 72 arrows to qualify, and was then ranked in the top 64.
My Greatest Challenge:
My greatest challenge was coming back from breaking my elbow, wrist, knee, and ankle. I also had three grade three tears in the ligaments in my ankle as well as having to go through recovery and physio throughout the COVID-19 Pandemic. I had my fall in December 2019, and then was in physio form January through til march of 2020, and then everything shut down and I think it slowed down my recovery process a lot. I felt like I was doing really well until the first lockdown happened and I was sent home from Physio. I didn’t see anyone for months, and because my heart was set on the Tokyo Games I said no to having surgery, but then the games were postponed anyway, and I wasn’t fully recovered by the time they were on in 2021, whereas I would have been if I had taken up the offer o have my injuries operated on. I tried to push so hard to get to Tokyo’s but then it got to point where I had to let go of the dream and focus solely on my full rest and recovery.
My Hobbies:
Outside of Archery, I enjoy going for a nice walk, especially along the beach because I find the sea calms me. I also quite like doing Jigsaw puzzles, and playing with my Rubik’s Cube. I am also currently a little obsessed with Call Of Duty: Mobile and I love taking my children out on my day’s off.
My Future Aspirations:
In the future I would quite like to continue my career as I love my sport and I love where I am at. I’d like to continue travelling with my sport, and in my spare time. I am also looking forward to Paris 2024. I feel like I have got a rough few months being away from home and my family. My training centre is 3h 30m away from where I live. I know that if I can power through to the end of April when I will know whether I am going to Paris or not I can then have a much more smooth sailing couple of months where I can see my family a lot more and spend time with them before travelling for Paris!
