How I Started
I started Kayaking at the age of 10 and at 13 I was selected for the GB team. I began at my local club on an open day and ended up staying with them. At 15 I attended my first world championships, but unfortunately the year after at the age of 16 I suffered an accident that put me in hospital meaning I had to relearn a lot of different key skills before ever being able to get back on the water! Thankfully, after my recovery period, I got stuck in and was back at the start line for the World Championships just a year later after I turned 17. Two years later in October 2021 I was studying at university and ended up back in hospital again with life-threatening injuries, I spent three months in intensive care before being transferred to a rehabilitation hospital where I stayed for another 9 months. During rehab a big challenge was wanting to get back on the water in order to retain muscle memory so I contacted the GB Paralympic team who set me up and allowed me to get back on the water even though I couldn’t even row! I continued to improve physically and in January 2023 I was selected for the Talent Pathway Programme with the GB Paralympic team who I now train full time alongside!
My Greatest Achievement
My greatest achievement is becoming the youngest to ever win a world championship at the age of 15. Of course, shortly after this, I was in hospital after my first accident which meant I was away from the sport for 11 months, thankfully after my recovery, I was happy to be back and also scored two silver medals.
My Greatest Challenge
My greatest challenge was undoubtedly making a comeback I can be proud of after suffering two large setbacks and being away from the sport for such a long stint. The added challenge of a global pandemic also allowed me to focus on training and bought me time as it postponed events and competitions too, allowing me more time for recovery.
My Hobbies
Outside of Rowing, I enjoy Crossfit, baking and spending time with friends and family when I’m not training!
My Future goals
In the future, I am aiming for the Paralympics in 2024 where I hope to be competing in PR2 Rowing.
