How I Started
When I was younger my dad was extremely sporty and he wanted me to get into as many sports as he did! One day he told me we were going to try Badminton, and I loved it! After beginning to play Badminton I kept on developing and becoming more in tune with the way I play until I reached local competitions! Upon entering a lot of the local competitions, I was younger than many of the other competitors, so I had to get myself up to speed very quickly to catch up with them as their bodies had developed more than mine, meaning they were stronger, faster and had more stamina. I quickly caught up and began winning competitions throughout my local area.
My Greatest Achievement
My greatest achievement is winning the Jamaican open, this was the first open I won and the feeling of when the final match ended was amazing! I felt pure joy, excitement, and exhaustion but I was mostly relieved as the climb to the final was suspenseful and intense. That night my coach and I went for dinner at Usain Bolt’s restaurant before getting an early night as we were flying to Cuba the next day to compete in the Cuban Open!
My Greatest Challenge
The greatest challenge I have faced is injury, specifically when I fractured my ankle and tore a ligament. This was a massive change for me as it wasn’t going to be a quick recovery, and at the age of 17, this is an extremely defining time for young athletes as they may be transitioning from junior to senior events, so as you can imagine, this was a painful injury to endure, not just physically. It took away a lot of time that I would have otherwise used to compete and train. Aside from the main recovery aspect, when you get back to the court you have also lost the edge having sustained such an injury, you don’t want to play as hard as you would have before, and as an attacking style player, my intensity in play is what gives me the edge over my opponents so not being able to have that full intensity is a massive burden for me.
My Hobbies
My hobbies include walking my dogs (especially on the beach), spending time at home with family, binging a great TV series, and finding brunch spots. I also love a good crossword! I also cook a great roast and love my coffee.
My Future goals
In the future, I am looking forward to continuing to compete at the highest level of Badminton and win more titles along with inspiring the next generation of youth to achieve whatever dream they set their mind to. I’d also like to complete a crossword puzzle without cheating!
