How I Started:
I started BMX’ing at 14 years old because the local council built a skatepark near me so I started going there with friends and began huge interest in the sport. At that point I was doing it as a hobby, but once I started to get to the point where I was good enough to compete and people began recommending me to enter competitions, I started to get a little more serious about it. The first competition I entered was NASS qualifier at Rampworx, I remember being very nervous as I waited to drop in, but before I knew it I was finished and I had won the qualifying bracket!
My Greatest Achievement:
My greatest achievement is getting to the finals at the World Championships. This was at Glasgow in 2023 , and to qualify I needed to complete two runs which would both be scored, then following that in the semi-finals only one run would count towards my final score. In the finals it began raining before I was scheduled to drop in, but we aren’t allowed to ride in the rain meaning I needed to wait an hour. This affected me because at the original time I was really ready, and then after that hour had passed I was a little more out of it and I needed to stay as calm as I could to compete.
My Greatest Challenge:
My greatest challenge was breaking my wrist before the Paris Olympics. It happened at training in the foam pit as I was learning a trick. Unfortunately, in the foam pit the bike doesn’t sink into the foam in the same way you would. This means that when I am trying to stay on the bike to show I could land the trick on another ramp it can put a lot of force onto my wrists. When this happened I went over the handle bars and unfortunately broke my wrist. I then had to face six months of physiotherapy and missing the olympic qualifiers, which thankfully, helped me come to terms with not just missing out but also understanding that the olympics isn’t everything.
My Hobbies:
Outside of BMX’ing I enjoy playing golf with my friends, and I also run an Electrical company that I have built up in the background of my sport career that gives me a second option and security should anything go wrong with my competing career.
My Future Aspirations:
In the future I want to compete at all the World Cup events, and I also aim to receive an invite to the X Games! I want to continue to be as healthy as I can and compete at the top level for as long as is possible. I am also looking forward to the possibility of competing at the LA 2028 Olympics, especially having missed out on Paris 2024! The qualifiers are two years away meaning I have ample time to develop new tricks and prepare for the challenge.
